It turns out that, of course, Daniel has been faking his mental impairment all along and that actually helps him as people around him are careless because they think he won't do anything with it. ![]() The torture is so severe that Daniel is believed to have suffered permanent brain damage as a result, so he's put to work in the community, doing the simplest jobs. Anyway, Daniel gets taken to this community and he's at first tortured to, I think, give up people who supported Allende. Paul exercised his power over everyone in order to do as he wanted, regardless of whether or not it actually falls in line with the stuff he preaches as a 'man of god'. And cult-like isn't even appropriate, because these people at Colonia Dignidad were a cult, through and through, no doubt about it. I mean it was related, as Daniel was sent to the Colonia Dignidad, literally meaning Colony of Dignity, as a result of the military coup, but the film deals more with the cult-like community of Colonia and its charismatic leader, Paul Schafer. I know a boyfriend was involved, but I felt it was more related to Pinochet's military leadership than it was. ![]() TNT owner Ted Turner refused to air the film, ostensibly because of its difficult subject matter, but the film goes out of its way to handle its material with as little exploitation as possible. This movie is definitely not what I would have expected, I mean I didn't really read the description on Netflix, but I assumed it was more like dealing with Pinochet's dictatorship. Anney is next courted by the less good-natured Glen (Ron Eldard), who takes out his rage on Bone both physically and sexually, as Bone becomes even more disillusioned at her mother's inability to get away from her monstrous husband. While Bone is still a small child, her single mother, Anney (Jennifer Jason Leigh), meets and marries the sweet Lyle (Dermot Mulroney), and the two add another daughter to the family before Lyle dies in an auto accident. ![]() Based on a novel by Dorothy Allison, the film (narrated by Laura Dern) tells the tale of Bone (Jena Malone), a poor white girl so named because she was born right after her mother survived a terrifying car crash. Little Chenier was directed by actress and filmmaker Bethany Ashton Wolf, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jace Johnson, whose short story provided the basis for the story.Īccomplished actress Anjelica Huston, daughter of John Huston, made her directorial debut with this absorbing, often wrenching story of child abuse in the 1950s American South. As it happens, Carl has reason to suspect Mary-Louise - she still stops by the Dupuis home occasionally to bring snacks for Pemon, and is sometimes tempted into infidelity by Beaux. Beaux used to love Mary-Louise (Tamara Braun), a dark-eyed beauty, but she's recently married local ne'er do well Carl Lebauve (Jeremy Davidson), who has a mean streak and a jealous nature. Beaux is a handsome and responsible man who supports his family by running a bait shop and looks after Pemon, who is mentally handicapped.
